Cyborg Kinship
2025 Spring
Wire, Tin Foil, Gears, Foam, Soil, Pothos
If a cyborg had a womb , one that is both mechanical and organic , what kind of life might it hold? This work were made while sitting with my ambivalence towards reproductive technology: whether it liberates our bodies or reiterates control over them in new forms. But this work evolved to ask a more radical question: Why must kinship be based on heterosexual reproduction? The pothos keeps growing after the piece is finished, exceeding my authorship, while my watering and care help it grow. A kinship with plant and machine, held together not by blood, but by care and love.
Exhibited at Wellesley Botanical Garden, October 2025 – January 2026.
